A message from the P&C

Welcome to Branxton Public School. We are fortunate to have a valued and active Parents & Citizens (P&C) Association which works with the school to provide a wonderfully community centred environment for our children to learn and thrive within.

The P&C invites you to become involved with your child's school by helping out at the various events run by the P&C throughout the year and/or by joining the P&C and attending our monthly meetings. P&C meetings are advertised in the school newsletter and everyone is most welcome to attend.

In case you were wondering, You don't need to be a member of the P&C to attend the meetings. If you come to a meeting you can just listen or you can get involved with the discussion, its up to you. There is no pressure to join the committee or volunteer at the next event. You can come to just one meeting a year if you wish, or you can come to the meeting every month. We are all working to support our fantastic school in the education of our children so please come forward and join in however you can.

The P&C does great things at Branxton Public School

  • Some of the great things the P&C does for the Branxton Public School students and community include:
  • Canteen – A volunteer based canteen service five days a week with a variety of low cost nutritious options for students to have for breakfast, recess and lunch. Lunch orders are to be placed through Flexischools. The canteen also supports many sports events throughout the year.
  • Uniform Shop – A volunteer run uniform shop which is well stocked and regularly manned (one morning a week). Located right next to the canteen we sell polo shirts, sports shirts, jumpers, hats, jackets and bags. Online orders are preferred through Flexischools  and will delivered to classrooms regularly.
  • Annual events – Events like the Mothers' and Fathers' day stalls, providing an easy way for students to purchase a wrapped gift for their parent or carer.
  • Raffles – The Easter Raffle and Christmas Hampers, allowing students to get involved in the fundraising to sell raffle tickets and enjoy the fun of watching 30+ prizes drawn and handed out to their peers, teachers and families.
  • Fundraisers – The pie drive usually takes place late in Term 2, just in time for those cold winter days when you don't feel like stir fries and salads!
  • Supporting students in the classrooms – The P&C last year subsidised Mathletics subscriptions, a Stage 3 Pro-Literacy program, and a visit by Questacon. The P&C has purchased laptops, smart boards and air conditioners for classrooms in recent years.

Without parent support all this would not be possible. Do you have an idea for our school? Is there something you would like the P&C to do or fund? Why not come along to our meetings or get involved in these events.

How to get involved

Parents, staff and interested community members are encouraged and welcome to participate in the P&C, at whatever level fits with you.

  • Attend the monthly meetings. These are held once a month on a Monday from 6pm in the library (check the school newsletter meeting dates). At these meetings you can hear about what has been happening in the school, have input into school programs, talk about the school uniform, discuss the canteen menu, hear about fundraising projects before they happen, and vote on how the P&C spends its money. Meetings are open to parents/carers, staff and anyone interested in the welfare of the school. To be able to vote on P&C issues, you must be a member of the P&C Association which costs just $1 annually. To become a P&C member, come along to a monthly meeting and introduce yourself to our secretary. To join the P&C committee, come along to the Annual General Meeting, advertised in the school newsletter.
  • Volunteer in the canteen! With over 300 students at Branxton Public School, our canteen is always in need of volunteers to lend a helping hand. Why not bring a friend and make a day of it? Your children will love to see you there. We need new volunteers for regular canteen duty – maybe twice a term? We also need a stand-by list of volunteers to call on when there is an unexpected shortfall. If you are interested please let us know.
  • Help with the uniform shop. The uniform shop is run wholly by volunteers– if you can assist please let us know. We need increased volunteers during kindergarten orientation and at the start of each year.
  • Help out with fundraising and social events. Lots of events are held throughout the year and there are many ways to get involved. You can share ideas, help set up or pack up for events. Our annual events include Mothers' Day and Fathers' Day stalls, the Easter raffle, the annual pie drive and the carols by torchlight event which includes donated Christmas Hampers!

If you are interested in helping out or have ideas to share, come along to a P&C meeting or send an email to the P&C at branxtonpublicschool@pandcaffiliate.org.au.

School strategy, policy and planning

The P&C has an elected school policy and planning subcommittee which meets regularly with the school to discuss progress against the School Plan. The committee provides a regular report at the general P&C Meetings.
